Biography:

I am Derrick Hodgson and am the parliamentary candidate for the Reform party in the Shipley constituency.

I am 66 years old and a Bingley resident.

I am a fully time served electrical engineer and run my own window furnishing business which is in its 18th year. Between 2011 and 2013 I set up a solar panel business which was a limited company installing solar panels.

During the pandemic I offered my services to the NHS and was installed as a porter at the Harrogate Nightingale hospital. I was there for 6 weeks and when it became apparent that the facility would not be used, I was transferred to Jimmys in Leeds where I spent several months as a temporary part time porter.

I have lived in Bingley for 18 years and during that time have been active in and around the Bingley area. I was the chair of the Bingley actions stations group, a group of volunteers that looked after the Bingley and Crossflatts rail stations.

As a group we designed and built the narrowboat planter, installed the five rise locks themed addition to the planter, designed and built the train planters at the front of the station, refurbished the tunnel sign, maintained the gardens and the planters at both stations, set up the Christmas tree in the foyer, organised the children of Myrtle Park primary to sing carols at Christmas and various other things in and around the stations.

I have cleaned signs, litter picked, planted flowers around Bingley, and trees in St Ives.

I installed a solar panel system for the scout headquarters for free which the scouts now benefit from the free electricity, and they are paid the export tariff.

I helped in 2015 during the floods on boxing day in which we tried to help the residents with the turmoil of the floods and indeed we helped the Brown Cow clean up during the mayhem.

I am currently going through a process to become a volunteer for SSAFA which is the soldiers, sailors and airmen’s family association. A voluntary charitable organisation which provides financial assistance, welfare rights, help with housing, disability equipment and modifications, advice, friendship visits and practical support for military veterans.

Politically, I have stood for UKIP, the Brexit party and was active for the vote leave UK campaign.

I joined Reform due to the current mess the Tories have made of the economy, indeed, I have seen my turnover fall by 33% last year and felt that something had to change. We have net zero madness, legal and illegal migration at an all time high, NHS in turmoil, doctors on strike, rail workers on strike, the Horizon scandal, it seems to me that every time you wake up there is another crisis looming. Where does it end?
