Nigel Farage has called for the identities of five men arrested near RAF Fairford to be released following a bomb scare at the Gloucestershire airbase.
The Reform UK leader said he had warned “both in and out of Parliament for many months about Iranian agents coming into the UK via small boats across the Channel”.
“We deserve to be told the truth about the Fairford bomb plotters’ identities”, he added.
Police were called shortly after midnight on Sunday following reports of three suspicious vehicles travelling towards the base, which is used by the US military. Armed officers arrested five men nearby, while bomb specialists examined the vehicles and residents of around 85 homes were evacuated.
The arrests raise serious questions about security at a base used by the US military. Who were these men, and what were they doing near RAF Fairford in the early hours of Sunday morning?
Reform UK’s Richard Tice demanded that the government disclose “the identities, arrival times and provenance and residence status of those arrested outside RAF Fairford”.
Robert Jenrick also said: “When I revealed terrorists were using the small boats to enter the UK, the Home Office - with the support of Yvette Cooper - threatened me. They sought to cover up a national security emergency. We may now be seeing the consequences of their unforgivable complacency.”
RAF Fairford has been on heightened alert in recent days. In July, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that bases used for attacks on Iranian territory would be considered legitimate targets.
Counter-terrorism police are currently investigating. A possible Iranian connection is reportedly among the lines of inquiry, but officers have not established a motive or publicly linked the arrested men to Iran or small-boat crossings. That makes the questions about their identities and backgrounds all the more urgent.
