Protesters gathered in Gosport, Hampshire, on Tuesday night after reports that a boat carrying 51 illegal immigrants would be brought ashore.
The immigrants had reportedly spent more than 30 hours at sea after setting off from the French coast. They were ultimately taken to Dover, but the prospect of another arrival on the south coast brought hundreds of concerned residents onto the streets.
Paul Carter, Reform UK councillor for Bridgemary ward on Gosport Borough Council, said: “Hundreds of people came out in their droves to say: ‘No, we do not want this boat landing here in Gosport.’
“A lot of people are really worried, especially around here on our peninsula. This is the home of the Royal Navy. As you can see behind us, there is a housing estate where hundreds of people live. To have that boat land right on their doorstep is just not acceptable.”
Reform UK supports the right to peaceful protest and completely understands the British people’s anger. But the only lasting solution will come through the ballot box and the election of a Reform government.
The incident comes after 140 migrants made an unprecedented journey from Normandy to Portsmouth earlier this month. Reform UK MP Suella Braverman warned then that the boats were “getting bigger”, passenger numbers were increasing and the routes were becoming longer.
These arrivals represent the next stage of the illegal invasion. Migrant boats are taking longer and more dangerous routes in an attempt to reach different parts of England’s southern coastline. Yet the Government continues to act against the interests of the British people.
Under a Reform UK government, nobody crossing the Channel illegally by boat would reach our shores.
Through Operation Fortress, the Armed Forces would intercept unauthorised vessels in the Channel, transfer those aboard safely to Royal Navy ships and return them to France or Belgium.
Only Reform has a serious plan to stop the boats and restore control of Britain’s borders.
