Biography:

Since retiring from the London Fire Brigade, as a senior Fire Officer, in 1993, I have owned and continue to run my own company, which employs local people and provides risk management and occupational safety advice and support services. I love helping other employers, in the private, public and voluntary sectors, to deliver efficiency and effectiveness, in a safe environment and keeping their people safe.

I have previously (2015 and 2019 elections) been fortunate to have been elected to serve as a Borough and Town Councillor, where I was also Chairman of the Adult Social Care Scrutiny Panel and Environmental Services Committee, respectively. I look forward to continuing to apply my skills and the lessons learned, for the benefit of you and all of the electorate within the newly created constituency of Earley and Woodley and their families. In fact, throughout the whole of my working and public life I have focused on caring for people. Seriously, it’s just what I do.

For instance, as a Trades Unionist I am used to listening to people, in order to seek their views and deliver the changes they seek. I know how the process of representing your views works, so I’m looking forward, if elected, to hitting the ground running. I have also been a serving magistrate (Justice of the Peace) for over 30 years (currently on the reserve list), so I understand many of the issues facing residents, first hand and with a 22-year-old son, I also tend to be kept up to date with the issues of relevance to young persons.

Accordingly, I will continue to focus my efforts on keeping crime and anti-social behaviour under control, although I also believe that we should have more for our young people to do, as well as pursuing social cohesion through collective responsibility and care for every member of our communities, regardless of race, colour or creed. I have always been and continue to be a firm advocate of the Nolan Principles of selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership and you will get to know that although I say what I mean, without fear or favour, I will also mean what I say. My ‘only’ promises to you, therefore, are that I will ‘always’ tell you the truth, as I see it, and will ‘never’ promise to do anything that I know I cannot deliver.

Just to conclude, until we get a chance to meet, face to face, you might find this a surprising statement but I did ‘not’ set out to be a politician and definitely not an MP but as you will have seen, from this snapshot of me, I just want to help and care for those around me, who want my help. You might not always get the answer you want but I will always treat your issue(s) seriously and respectfully and try my utmost best to remove jargon and circuitous discussion from disputes.

So, yes, I now want to be your MP so that I can use my forthright communications skills on your behalf and be your voice, in the right places, to drive long-overdue well-managed change, through caring leadership, so that it works properly for ‘all’ the people and so that we can ‘all’ make Britain great again.
